A new study in the Journal of Political Economy by Felix Oberholzer-Gee and Koleman Strumpf has found that illegal music downloads have had no noticeable effects on the sale of music, contrary to the claims of the recording industry.

We download because we don't have the cash to blow on buying it.

If we couldn't download, it's not like we would buy it anyway. I know for a fact I wouldn't have 100% of the software I have, if I couldn't download it… Think of P2P as the modern poor man's Robin Hood.

^we all know that, the rich people and shits like RIAA (or whatever) don't know that, or care and want as much money as possible. i hate money...its more valuable than lives.

True, Hanafi. I lost my internet connection at home over three months ago, and I haven't suddenly found myself buying hundreds of CDs, DVDs and software titles. Why? Because I still can't afford them.

exactly, people wouldn't get this stuff because they don't want to pay high prices or can't afford it. the only difference with piracy is people that would of never gotten the product, now have it. in fact, some people download songs then buy CD's, download movies, then go to the theaters to see them with their friends or loved ones...some people want to know what they are buying before they buy it.. not everyone wants to buy an entire CD for just one or two songs.

the big companies seem to confuse actual profit loss with potential profit loss.

go figure. this companies take the amount of downloaders multiply it by the price and say we are losing billions when actually the lost potential billions. Just Like I can potentially have sex with carmon electra but lets face it both are not going to happen.
