New Computer Chips Have it All

Intel has designed a computer chip that promises to perform calculations as quickly as an entire data center -- while consuming as much energy as a light bulb. The world's biggest chipmaker said last week that it has developed a programmable processor that can perform about a trillion calculations per second, or deliver a performance of 1.01 teraflops. It accomplishes this feat while consuming 62 watts of power when the chip is running at a frequency of 3.16 gigahertz.

It surely is; chances are, it'll've saved your bacon a few times.
I wish GPU manufacturers would take a leaf out of Intel's and AMD's book; these new videocards eat power like a supermodel/insecure woman on the first phase of a binge-wharf session. I'm thinking of moving my computer into my greenhouse to use it as a spaceheater.
Keep pushing the envelope Intel (whatever that means). And if (as some of the more angry Shoutwire contributers seem to think) you have to indiscriminately murder 30 Palestinian pre-indoctrinated/human* bomb children per waifer that rolls off the line, then although I, by no means advocate mass murder - hence my stance on that issue and the allegedly related (though I don't believe it - how could I with the empirical evidence?) ones - it's worth pointing out that the 'crisis', that's to say the self-imposed and perpetuated 'crisis' of the Palestinian 'people', would be over in a matter of hours. And then we can all stop pretending like we give a shit about it, or that it's not almost totally irrelevant.
Good job Intel.

Yeah, but will it run BF2142 without the server crashing?

^ That's because 2142 is a load of utter shite.

Right now having this is as useful as having a Radeon X3950XTX, nothing can or will use it.

They're not thinking of selling these to the consumer, are they nuts?

Intel suggested one possible consumer use: a program that intelligently monitors a televised sporting event and automatically identifies and compiles key highlights.

-All the while we will be unknowingly finishing the final stage on skynet by handing this over to the Military

But no worries to you mr j.q.public,just watch the highlights of last nights game in glorious HD

So, the question is would this chip work that fast in a computer that had windows? Or does it need some special programable crap to make it work that fast like the cell?

quincy0191Fuck You, Norton Antivirus
I’ve been having problems with Norton Antivirus for the past few weeks, mainly relating to an issue with the ccSvcHst.exe file, which has a tendency to eat one’s entire CPU on occasion, and for little reason. The LiveUpdate feature has some influence here; if it’s not run for an extended period, and when it is run and for a short time after, it causes ccSvcHst.exe to take up 80-100% of the processor’s capacity. This is a well-documented issue online, as a quick Goog...

quincy0191It's Gettin' Hot in Herre
Pretty much everyone’s heard about the evil/saintly hacker who stole/liberated thousands of emails from a server at the University of East Anglia in England. Most publicized is the use of the word “trick” by one of the scientists when referring to climate data that did not indicate warming; essentially, the individual wished to hide the fact that there was no warming during a given period, via “creative statistics” (my term, not theirs).Plenty of climate change skep...
