Unfortunately for Media Defender - a company dedicated to mitigating the effects of internet leaks - they can do nothing about being the subject of the biggest BitTorrent leak of all time. Over 700mb of their own internal emails, dating back over 6 months have been leaked to the internet.

Maybe someone should email this to

Universal Music rep David.Benjamin@umusic.com

who seems convinced that lawsuits are going to work. Yet, Mediadefender seems convinced they won't work, enough to tell all employees to "laugh" about it.

Universal is curiouse if we have any historical data over the last 3 months that show whether .edu IP addresses on p2p have gone down.

They want to see if their lawsuits are getting students to stop using p2p (take a moment to laugh to yourself).

Let me know if anyone has any ideas.

This may very well be the greatest internet moment of 2007. Note, you can open the MBOX file in Firefox. It'll be slow as hell though. There's a faster way for Windows users though.

Start->Run->"Command"

At the command prompt, go to the directory where you extracted the file, type edit *filename*; example-
I moved it into c: and renamed it, so I typed:
edit mediadefender.mbox

It will bring up the first 65 thousand lines of text; to read more I just started deleting the pointless hash strings, hex codes, and html bullshit. I hope a group gets a more...readable version released.

an easier way is to use mbox2eml
http://home.arcor.de/luethje/prog/mbx2e068_en.zip

extract mbox2eml to a folder and create a txt file with this in it

mbx2eml mediadefender.mail.200612.200709.mbox c:\temp\ /i /p

rename the .txt to .BAT and run the batch file.

then goto c:\temp and you can view them in standard outlook express built into windows.

Ty,

It looks like Danny's hash generator that creates the WMA/WMV popup stuff looks at both the "Gnutella Advertising" and "Ares Advertising" fields on Project Management. I started looking at the web analytics for our porn sites and noticed a surge in traffic that looked Hispanic. I kept looking around at different settings until finally I realized these were from your Ares decoys. Take the PARIS HILTON 2006-08-16 project, for example, which is sending out decoys for "paris hilton" searches with our porn popups (see http://pm.mediadefender.com/sonybmg/edit_project.php?project_id=250971
). The WMA/WMVs are downloading fine, and the popups look great, but is this a screw-up on Danny's stuff or am I missing something?

I guess this explains the increase in DCa bandwidth use since you turned up the Ares promo decoying. Could this be part of what is swamping the Marketing Intel database? I'm not sure where Danny's hashing stuff sits or where you get other Ares Promo decoy settings.

Let me know if you want a lot of these porn projects turned down/off.

Thanks,

Ben

These guys may suck hard but at least they have a sense of humour. It will be interesting to see the fallout from this though.

The death penalty is a constant source of controversy in the United States, one of the last industrialized countries to keep the practice legal, and the only one to regularly kill people (Japan and South Korea have a de-facto moratorium on capital punishment). In fact, five countries are responsible for 95% of all executions worldwide: China, Iraq, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the US. Not great company, to say the least. Somewhere around fifty people are killed in th...
