Playing the race card since 2005... As Johnny Storm used to say, "Flame on!"
If you are anything like me, you have no doubt been watching the wildfires unfolding in southern California with more than a slight bit of indifference. Let me be the first to say… I don’t give a fuck if rich people’s houses get burned to the ground. Fuck them, they probably deserve it.
Besides… no one is really ending up homeless here. Insurance companies may lose some money but that’s the business they are in. All the victims of this tragedy have more than enough money to handle their shit.
Not like Katrina. Those people were dirt broke and fucked up in the first place… losing their houses to something that arguably could have been prevented with better allocation of tax dollars (i.e. reinforcing the fucking levees…) seriously fucked up some peoples lives. There are still folks out there all this time later that haven’t yet nor will ever recover from that fucked up storm.
These are two very different situations. Only three deaths have been attributed to the wildfires in California. Katrina had dead bodies floating through the streets. The governments reaction has also been quite different. FEMA and anything government related avoided Louisiana like the plague for the first week it was underwater. Mr. Bush himself is headed to California as we speak to comfort those who lost their million dollar homes only hours ago.
The victims of these disasters are very different. Poor blacks versus rich whites. Arguably, very fucking arguably, you could say the poor blacks needed our help more. All the rich white folks need to do is check into a hotel. It wasn’t exactly that easy for the folks in New Orleans.
“But Zero… the government couldn’t reach the people in New Orleans. These are very different situations…” Fuck off with that. If the government can reach Saddam Hussein in Iraq then they can damn well get to some poor people in this very country to get them water and food. I wouldn’t be surprised if the first thought that came to Bush’s mind wasn’t “Let them poor niggers drown!”
Not so this week. The Bush administration is springing into action like a hooker on a Saturday night. “Rich folks are in trouble? Fire up Air Force One, Dick, we got some investors… I mean Americans to save!”
Now… I don’t want you to think I’m going all Al Sharpton on you guys. I’m just not turning a blind eye to shit. It is becoming pretty damn obvious that not only does economics play a part in who gets help in this country, race does as well. Especially when that race tends to not agree with the current administration…
So… what can we do about it? Not shit but recognize the fact and move on. This country is run by racist pieces of shit. Remember that when you look at the images coming out of southern California in the next two weeks or so. Remember how long it took for them to get to New Orleans and how quickly they got to the rich folks.
Remember that, feel ashamed, and change the god damn channel.
