I agree. Only certain nations currently have the right to develop nuclear plants.

If any other nation tries to develop them, they are usually assisted with a flurry of sanctions and pre emptive nuke threats.

If it runs out of steam, use a pebble bed reactor. No steam engine used for electricity generation then no reason to make steam. Heated helium used to power gas turbine. Or a stirling engine. Again no steam required.

Fuck Steam. We abandoned steam in our vehicles a hundred years ago. Why do we still use it for electricity generation? And look at what steam did to our beloved Half-Life!

bring on the nuclear reactors! im suprised that someone said they dont seem to be catching on when the UK government seems to love them like the fat kid loves cake.

Im kind of glad theyre not being built so readily now, perhaps some of the weirder countries will cease to desire them so much if we find better alternatives.

so many crazy countries allocate massive amounts of money to its research yet cant even seem to feed their own people. the countries who want nuclear reactors want them for status when they arent even well governed enough to see that they have more important problems at hand than what kind of fuel theyre using. Imagine if a civil war hit and someone messed with one? chernobyl mk II!

E.G. - North Korea

"waa! we alienated the west due to our oppresive regieme, media censorship, information blackout, persuit of nuclear weapons and re-writing history to keep our population in the dark, while spending around 25% of our GDP on our military cant feed the population, but its still not our fault we are experiencing mass famine and lack the appropriate trade lines to solve our problems, but we will still allocate massive funds to nuclear power rather than open diplomatic channels with agricultural nations and alter our foreign policy to gain access to cheap crops!" (didnt that sound like a peter griffin quip?)

cry-babies.

its like buying a dodge viper whilst living in a tent off canned beans.

Id imagine theyll bridge the transitional gap between coal/oil/gas plants and renewable energy plants nicely for us nice plump westerners, in our nice cozy homes.

Whats a bit of radiation when its mixed with concrete and buried for hundreds of years? we get as much radiation from a short haul flight as we do from an x-ray, and that doesnt seem to bother us too much!

The only way people would support nuclear power is if nuclear safety is increased and a better solution to radioactive waste is found. Like fuel reprocessing to get much more life out of the nuclear fuel. And transmutation to greatly reduce the half-life of the radioactive waste and even generate power while doing so.

The article is one of a whole clutch of articles on nuclear power. Good for getting up to speed on the issues.

The death penalty is a constant source of controversy in the United States, one of the last industrialized countries to keep the practice legal, and the only one to regularly kill people (Japan and South Korea have a de-facto moratorium on capital punishment). In fact, five countries are responsible for 95% of all executions worldwide: China, Iraq, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the US. Not great company, to say the least. Somewhere around fifty people are killed in th...
