Is it possible for a 23 year-old college student to pass an assignment when he can barely string together a sentence? The answer is “yes.”

I recently turned in a report that was nowhere near completion, but the professor still gave me a 100 for it. And she even called it a 'Super report!'

Also, one of my English teachers in high school was fired specifically because he was too 'hard' on his students. In fact, he was one of the few competent English teachers there.

I'd just like to point out that saying that trash is at a a grade 6 level is probably a bit optimistic.

This is what happens when you give teachers incentives for passing students. Give a monetary bonus for having all your kids pass, and you're going to hurt the kids.

EDIT: And not to make fun of the kid, because unjust mockery apparently makes me an asshole, but in his opening line:

Is his second word, "us", supposed to be the objective form of "we" that we all think it is, or is he actually (not only) writing "yous", but spelling it wrong?

That started off as funny and then ended up pretty sad...
If someone at that age cannot write properly all because a teacher didn't fail them, then we have a serious problem with teachers.
If it is fairly obvious from an early stage that that person has learning problems, they should have been given extra help and not just be told that they are doing fine!
Teachers need to realise that it doesn't look bad if they say that a student they're teaching needs some kind of extra help, it's their job to do so.

I concur.

This had to be a foreign student where English is not their first language I don't see how anyone could write this poorly especially when we have computers that check spelling and grammar.

Another thought, perhaps the teachers do not want to be stuck with this person in their class again. Just another reason they would pass someone who obviously is not ready to function in the real world.

a few years back, i hired a mechanical engineering technologist, straight out of Conestoga College. He could not do a drawing to save his life and being a technologist, this is EXTREMELY important. 90% of your time is spent on detail drawings... So, yeah, he got fired within a week. I met with the dean of engineering at conestoga, because i didn't want shmucks like this preventing me from getting a job. The dean said it was the student's responsibility to learn how to do a drawing... ? Then why were 4 courses taught on that very subject?

post secondary education is highly over-rated!

George Bush's no child left behind law is hurting the US so bad.

Also I was listening to a talk radio show about a school district that simply does not allow the school to fail a student. Work your ass off and get an A. COOL. Don't do shit and sleep all day pass with a D. What kind of incentive is that to the kids who actually want to learn?

Fuckin A... I feel we are in for some tough times. The Idiocracy is upon us.

I agree that it's an important issue but seriously, it's not the teachers' fault if they're stuck in a no win position. They do look bad if they aren't in the average and it gets more important as you go higher in grades.

Edit: I know that simply because my sister is a teacher.

FidoPolitical Prestidigitation
Roughly sixty Days from today, American voters will go to the polls to select a new President. Issues of health care, security and an unpopular war weigh heavily on the minds of US citizens.Or, do they? Several days ago, Barack Obama delivered a bombastic acceptance speech delineating the brave new course his administration would undertake. The logistics of which seemed to get lost in the rhetoric. But, it was inspiring none the less. The Democratic party was united...
