Because an Atheist would never sacrifice his own life for another, for he fears death above all else. Since he is chained by the horror of non-existence if faced with death; to him his own life trumps all other causes. An Atheist is incapable of such heroic acts of self-less bravery and sacrifice.

If you were in a foxhole, would you want an Atheist covering your back? I know I woulden't...

on another note this isn't really heroic he was just being a father! I would do the same!!

Hanafi, Atheists love their siblings just as much as any other person. In fact, they would love them more than their own selves. In such a situation, I am pretty sure the person that saved this girl didn't think about religion, he just thought about his daughter, just like every other person put into the same situation, including atheists.

I wonder if he realised he was going to die when he saved her. Maybe he was just planning to move her out of harms way without harming himself. who knows what went though this mans mind during his last moments.

This was a tragic accident and as MedFreak said "I am pretty sure the person that saved this girl didn't think about religion, he just thought about his daughter, just like every other person put into the same situation, including atheists." Religion doesn't come into it, just a father's love for his daughter.

I think hanafi was being satirical in order to prove a point through the extremist-card.

Rest in peace, if theres a heaven, you've got a vip ticket.
But regardless, to live another day for your family, especially for your daughter would be preferable, if not for yourself than for the other people you love. If you have someone that depends on you in any way, death shouldn't be glorified but avoided to a certain cost. This was an accident however and he had to choose one life over another, so running the risk of negating my own argument i believe it was an honorable and noble act.
