"After all, corporations exist to satisfy the demands of the people or market."

That isn't necessarily true. These days corporations often manufacture goods that cater to illusory wants rather than actual demand for needs. Mass advertising, for example, is designed to instill desire for things we don't actually need. It's too simple to just say companies follow supply and demand.

That doesn't mean that video games are a bad influence though. But if you're too stupid to tell the difference between reality and a video game you shouldn't be allowed near them.

Video games definately do not cause violence in anyone. They are simply a form of escapism, like films and music, and are seen by children lately as a way of socialising with each other.

Most of the children involved in violent acts that people try to attribute to video games usually fit the profile of social outcast with little parental guidance. In the UK most of the violent crimes they try to blame on video games are committed by unemployed youths that hang around in gangs fighting each oter instead of playing on video games.

Maybe if we sat them down and gave them a copy of GTA4 they wouldn't be out fighting each other.

I would fucking love to see that headline, "Playing Grand Theft Auto IV stops inner city violence between gangs."

It's simple, if parents let children play GTA unless they feel their child won't be influenced by it, they have failed as parents.

From the BPS research digest issue 116:

It matters how much blood video games have in them.

Hype surrounding the global release of the gangster-themed video game GrandTheft Auto IV has renewed the long-standing debate over whether violent games make players more aggressive. Now Christopher Barlett and colleagues have provided a fresh angle on the issue by specifically testing whether the amount of blood in a game makes any difference to its effects on aggression.

The researchers took advantage of the fact that the game Mortal Combat: Deadly Alliance allows players to select one of four blood levels, from none to maximum (in which copious amounts of blood spurts everywhere and gets trodden by characters around the playing area).

Of 74 students who played the Mortal Combat game for 15 minutes, those who played on the maximum blood level experienced larger increases in hostility after playing (as judged by their agreement with statements like "I feel furious") and larger increases in arousal as measured by their heart rate, than did the players on the lower or zero blood levels.

Those students who played the game with blood also showed higher levels of aggression, compared with those who played without blood, as indicated by their greater use of their character's weapon in the game, which they'd been told would inflict more damage on their opponents.

A second experiment with 31 students showed that playing Mortal Combat on the maximum blood level, as compared with the no blood level, activated more aggression related thoughts, as measured by participants' choice of how to complete ambiguous word stems like KI-- (e.g. KILL vs. KISS).

"...[T]he violence, plus the high amount of blood, primes more aggressive thoughts in memory compared with just playing the violent game without the blood," the researchers said.

So whats next burn every single copy of shakespeare's works because they have murders in them ? burn history books and pretend it didn't happen because mankind is barbaric and savage ? ban the news because people justify slaughtering thousands of civilians in a bullshit war ?

The world isn't a nice place full of rainbows and care-bears n cupcakes .

If you want to blame something blame this .
1. Americas gun mentality.

2. The fact that children are growing up in a violent society and they only have to turn on the news to see the so called bad guys getting killed and there being told its OK its in the name of democracy .
3.the poorer classes having no money and then being told by newspapers and TV your no one unless you have lots of money and posetions and liveing <the so called american dream.
Its an open invitation for the underdog to steal, murder and take other peoples stuff.

So before you go blaming video games look at the world around you n see how much real violence our children get exposed to and ask yourself the question whats more lightly to inspire kids? a man getting gunned down in front of his house or a friend getting beaten for his cellphone. or a video game ? not to mention the fact that the game is m for mature so kids shouldn't be getting hold of it anyway . so all in all if you blame video-games your just whitewashing over the real problems that go on around us every day . don't be so lame .

So I was in my local Tesco the other day looking for the latest issue of Top Gear...they didn’t have any, the reason I will come to in a minute. Since when did it become fucking default to sell your wedding photos to the media? You desperate fucks. It’s now football players, not only Z-List Celebrities, who now seem to now aspire to be on the front cover of Heat magazine or its poor man equivalents. This shit I find absurd, these are sportsmen who marry their fat tr...
