RIAA Sues YouTube Users

The latest BS to emerge from the RIAA are cease-and-desist letters to Youtube users who have dared to put up videos of things such as themselves dancing to music they haven’t licensed. Clearly an insanity plea no longer covers the RIAA’s stupidity. From trying to orchestrate illegal takedowns in other countries a la The Pirate Bay to sending cease-and-desist letters to some poor user who has just recorded himself doing silly things to a song no one will even remember a week later.

It seems the cease-and-desist letter should be sent to YouTube and not its users. I mean the user isnt going to profit from what they upload, will they? Its YouTube that makes the profits from ads.

If RIAA really feels this way about videos of music being danced to, does this mean my mom can be sued for video taping me dancing to Thriller in my 5th grade school play? Is it illegal for her to show it to a public audience. My GoD!! Bob Saget is gonna get mega-sued for all those videos he shows on America's Funniest Home Videos of dancing kids!!!!

I do think artists, bands, authors, etc deserve something for their creations, and there are still honest folks who pay to enjoy the product. But art is a comodity. Different economic environmental factors cause art value to increase or decline. It just so happens that a technology (the internet) has caused an economic environmental condition that makes their art not worth as much as it once was (CDs have gone from $16 down to $8)(DVDs have gone from $25 to $12). Bands and artists, and video game makers, just hate that they arent making as much money as they were use to making. Like any other business, if they arent making enough to stay afloat with their creations, then they need to try a different business instead.

I say we tell the RIAA what we think by downloading everything, by sharing everything. Think about it, they cant go after everyone. Eventualy they will give up, or start to think differant. We cannot give into them. This article and the ridiculousness of their action against youtube users just shows where they are heading. Its going to get alot worse if we dont tell them to fuck off in our own ways.

i wonder if we'll get sued if britney released a "happy birthday to you song"....

damn, you people having birthdays should hope for a "Get outta jail" card more than your favourite gift!

if RIAA gets away with this, they'll soon sue people for singing along with music because that infringes on copyrighted lyrics

This is pathetic... RIAA are screwing with all this world and if they don't watch it they might piss off the wrong person... then we would get the pleasure of watching them go through alot of legal or other kinds of stress...

quincy0191Fuck You, Norton Antivirus
I’ve been having problems with Norton Antivirus for the past few weeks, mainly relating to an issue with the ccSvcHst.exe file, which has a tendency to eat one’s entire CPU on occasion, and for little reason. The LiveUpdate feature has some influence here; if it’s not run for an extended period, and when it is run and for a short time after, it causes ccSvcHst.exe to take up 80-100% of the processor’s capacity. This is a well-documented issue online, as a quick Goog...

quincy0191It's Gettin' Hot in Herre
Pretty much everyone’s heard about the evil/saintly hacker who stole/liberated thousands of emails from a server at the University of East Anglia in England. Most publicized is the use of the word “trick” by one of the scientists when referring to climate data that did not indicate warming; essentially, the individual wished to hide the fact that there was no warming during a given period, via “creative statistics” (my term, not theirs).Plenty of climate change skep...
