IT'S CETI not SETI...considering I just read Lewis Thomas essay in my English class. CETI: acronym for the First International Conference on Communication with Extraterrestrial Intelligence...SETI...haha...it's CETI

Wow

I'm amazed at all the hostility in here and all over something we can't possibly know or prove one way or the other...

It's rather over the top to say we can know what form life would take elsewhere, we don't even know what's in our own solar system ffs, is their life on Europa? it's possible, is there multicellular life? probably not.

Outside our solar system, who knows? Not me, you, anyone on this board, Asimov, Clarke, Sagan, nobody, lol

If I were a betting man I'd bet on thousands of planets containing intelligent life, communication with them, probably not

Can we speak whale or dolphin? no, but those are intelligent sentient lifeforms we seem intent on wiping out -.-

One point I do agree with, we should look to the problems of our own making first. The environment and iraq to name two.

People think we're in the third millennium, but we're not, we're getting closer to 1984 every day :/

Anyone wanting to discuss this intelligently is welcome to wander over to www. 1984.org.uk, lol

Excuse me?
I am a narrowminded prick?
Human life and technology expands in spite of me?
I don't think out of the box?

Where do you get these ideas from?
Because I refuse to believe this one story?

Like I said: I DO believe in life outside this solar system, despite there being no proof. I just refuse to believe that Greer & co. have encountered it. They want it too much, they are almost religious in their beliefs.

@Dajpplant

Ill give you some advice : At the age of 15, do not think you know everything (Bcrav madea good point)

I don't beleive its impossible, just HIGLY unlikley. Life favours the easy way out of things, even if they are ineffecient (take the rubisco enzyme for example).

Nitrogen would simply be far to hard to use, mainly because if there were alot of nitrogen avalaible in the atmostphere, it would be too well bound to itself (just like in our atmosphere) to be split apart and harnessed for energy.

If i recall N2 gas has one of the highest enthalpy energy's, something in the order of 1400kJ's. It would simply be impracticle to use nitrogen.

Im not a non-beleiver and im not close minded at all, I think theres a very good possibility that there is other life out there, even in our immediate vicinity of a few hundred light years, but id rather base discussion on things that are more plausible and likley.

Like Scarletpotention said, there is more chance of aliens being much more like an animal (obvoisly one we havent seen before) not some totally crazy super-powered beings that can turn invisble, etc, etc.

Also, hostility dosent help the argument, dont get me wrong, argue all you want, i guess thats the point of these things (as long as you back it up) but abusing people dosent help anything

Back to Steven Greer:

American ufologists, who experienced the 2001 conference were unimpressed. One of them stated that "it is obvious that Greer and his group hasn't researched the claims made here. And when that comes out, we will all look as if we cannot tell truth from false, and that we all believe these cases."

Another on said: "The congress will eat Greer and his witnesses alive, if there ever is a hearing."

Steven Greer has interviewed and recorded 100 ufo witnesses, which has resulted in a four hour long videotape, and a 500 page document. You can read about this on the website for The Disclosure Project.

One of Greers crown witnesses is Clifford Stone. He says that the earth is currently visited by 57 different races of aliens. And Steven Greer himself claims that the non-earthlings are currently working to form a world-wide government on Earth within the next 15 years (that claim made 5 years ago).

Among the many witnesses on the website you find the former astronaut Edgar Mitchell, who in actuality is very critical of Steven Greer's project!

Edgar Mitchell has in fact publicly denounced Steven Greer:
"I worked with Greer a few years ago, but time and time again, I found that he overinterpreted his data. I, and several others, found it necessary to withdraw from the project. Yet, despite having specifically requested to be deleted from the website, and not be put in connection with the project, he has done nothing."

Yes, he holds the title of doctor on paper, but of what?:
He was a physician. A medical doctor in a small town. He is not an acclaimed scientist, he is merely a well-educated nutjob.

Space.com posted this " What if SETI made contact? " article:

http://space.com/searchforlife/seti_whatif_060817.html

So obviously there is still no official word on this - but I think SETI really did make contact and they are just covering this up.
