Ehhh, there really is no comparison. After the initial awe factor of windows 7, it feels like a really well refined version of Vista. It's more bloated than Vista even though microsoft said they wouldn't do that. After initial install, Vista is around 9 to 10 gigs of space on HD, after windows 7 install it was close to 13 gigs of hd space.

After messing up the dual boot on my system... Vista Ultimate takes up roughly 20 gigs of space, the beta for windows 7 only takes up about 13 like you said...

You talk about DirectX 10, Why Arent you talking about DirectX 11? Windows 7 is going to have support for(also Vista but why...) DirectX 11, With on video card tessellation, secondary command buffers... GOD it looks beautiful

"Have you guys forgotten that the minimum requirements for XP home is 400 mhz and 64 ram?"
Provide a valid argument please. The fact of the matter is that computers are faster than ever(DuH!) and ram is much cheaper than it was when XP launched, but thats not a valid reason why XP should be faster than anything!
If we don't have progress then why make a new OS? In some ways Vista is faster than XP (awaiting the flame here) Most people who have never used vista FLAME it because of those Mac commercials.
Most people who have problems with Vista are people who havent upgraded their systems and jumped into vista 64 bit. Hello? did you see that no drivers have been made for 64 bit before in this sense and now ever manufacturer is going to have to make the drivers for stuff that they made years ago? no i don't think that's going to happen. Most of the compatibility problems were not really Microsoft's fault.. And there is a rant from a future Game Programmer.

Whoa, Vista is not faster than xp. I have quad boot system with xp 64, vista ultimate 64, windows 7, and the new ubuntu which i haven't had time to play with yet. I see SIGNIFICANT performance decline in vista.

I've read through your Q&A and have a few Qs :

1) Same processor and 2 gigs of ram, which OS will work better (shorter loading times, less lagging), a newly installed XP SP3 or a newly installed Windows 7?

2) Kind of stupid, but will all XP programs work on Win7?

Thanks

Aha, you took an unusual route. This, of course has nothing to do with reading comprehension but with you writing new stuff in an area that is, as everybody knows, hidden behind the « View full article » button.

I'm mostly not in the habit of reading an editorial twice because generally speaking once is enough to get the gist of it, so I generally don't hit the « View full article » button again.

Weird, aye?

Would have been a thousand times more logical if you just answered questions here in the comments section, but oh wait, I forgot, this is ShoutWire.

With certain settings, vista receives a performance increase on high-end systems.

When i say performance increase, i don't mean it uses less resources. I mean benchmarks in game gets higher results. Vista uses more resources than XP no matter what you do.

That's why windows 7 is going to be great, it uses LESS resources than XP AND it has all the benefits of the performance increase that you see with vista

i'm now running windows 7, and i have to say, this is the first time i've enjoyed using windows this much.(though i wasn't old enough to think anything about the move from windows 3.0-windows 95. I bet that had to be pretty impressive, because i remember using them both)

Excellent. I downloaded the beta tester of Windows 7 (32-bit) and installed it on my test laptop which had been running Ubuntu quite nicely. This is an old laptop (Acer 3002LC, 1.6Hz Sempron, 446Mb DDR, 60Gb HDD) which handled XP very well, but was sluggish with Vista. So far it seems to like Windows 7. I'm quietly impressed...

I think win7 is going to be a nice addition and a possible adversary toward xp, but there is this weird feeling in my gut that microsoft will get all these people hooked and screw them over...they've done it before they will do it again, BUT i will more than likely switch to this at one point in time. looking forward to its release

From the screenshots I have seen, 7 looks alot just vista with a new skin. Being a large eye candy fan, is there any cool new visual features?

quincy0191Infinity Ward VERSUS! Activision-Blizzard
The gaming world is abuzz with news of corporate villainy as Infinity Ward CEO Vince Zampella and president Jason West were fired last week under rather suspicious circumstances. According to reports, both employees were being “insubordinate” and their firing coincided with the arrival of some “bouncer types” on the Infinity Ward campus. This development just reeks of evil. The charges of insubordination are appropriately vague, and the additional fact that the firin...
