It's a vicious cycle. I gotta hear about 'that guy' while I am probably 'that guy' to somebody else.

I am not saying my writing is of Orwellian calibre, here. Largely, my editorials are on the spot rants - my stream of consciousness as I relay my opinions on one matter or another. Usually they are well-received by Shoutwire. I think it's because I usually try and choose (at least) semi-intellectual topics to express my opinions on and give some leeway to the reader to express their views if they are in opposition to my own and I happily debate them in the comments section.

But if you look at the 6 most recent editorials, 4 are on mindless bullshit (the other two have SOME merits, though they were not well-received), all 6 have the living shit bashed out of them so much so that collective bashes outnumber collective shouts. And is it any coincidence that these 4 editorials which encompass mindless bullshit were all written by Zero?

I think it should be very obvious this is not the sort of editorial Shoutwire demands, even with the added effects of staff artificially shouting and bashing articles, as admitted to me by BooaPeek. I realize I sound like a wound-up popinjay at the moment, but at a time when a Shoutwire Revolution has been called for, new layouts and events promised, site functionality promised within days - and these promises have obviously not been delivered, you would think the least one could do is to tone down the frequency of these sorts of editorials. Look at the Top News of the Week. The article on Megan Fox leaving Brian Green has the living fuck bashed out of it. Admittedly this is on a higher level than that tabloid shit, but it's not but a stone's throw away. Look at all the other articles of the News of the Week. They are on actual semi-intellectual topics - actual news (barring the war movies, but that's a common interest). Is it a coincidence that they are shouted to the Heavens?

It would be no problem if we had editors on here who could write comedic articles like those at Cracked.com, but very few possess that ability on this website at this given time. And I say this with all humility, you do not either, Zero.

Edit: I realize Cracked is largely mindless bullshit as well, but at the very least, it's comedic mindless bullshit. Just one man's opinion.

I was thinking about how I'm "that guy" for about 3 chicks.

I feel like a dick about it, but the good type of dick.

khram totally wins. and i hope my ed isn't included in the "mindless bullshit" category (though i suspect it isn't).

seriously, zero, you dont have to post as much as this, and you probably shouldn't. take some time to think of a decent topic and write a good ed about that. if i don't have anything to say, i don't write. i've got two or three unposted eds sitting on my comp, because a few days ago i had a lot of shit to say, but i'd rather save it for when i don't have anything.

that said, this wasn't your worst ed of the day. occasionally amusing, but poorly written. i can't figure out what the fuck you're trying to say at certain points.

also, "popinjay" is an awesome word.

POPINJAY!

^ Compared to the other editorials up there at the moment, you could write for The New Yorker, Quincy.

Just once - JUST ONCE - I would like to log on to Shoutwire and see the old glory days of fervent religious or political discussions. I would be able to read editorials on scientific subjects. Sure they're dry, but they don't shrivel the mind like a gonorrhea-ridden penis, as does the Megan Fox article, or any of Zero's last 4 editorials.

If Shoutwire can combine serious discussion with the humour of Cracked, it will be a successful site in terms of content. Not spamming lolcats up the ass or pictures of mantits.

^fact is, the old days of shoutwire were less populous than now.

The old system made it difficult to post articles (compared to now).

So the only people posting were the few people with a brain who cared about controversy.

Now we have idiots who can easily post garbage and shout it up.

The front page cycles FAST now...lots of bullshit...but what are you gonna do? Ban idiots?

It's just an inevitable truth. Better filters and searchability might curb this a little, but that's it.

"He got drunk and tried to sleep with/told off my sister!"

First of all, you know as well as I do that rotten cunt deserves a kick in the ass. We can agree on that, but I had the balls to tell her. Or maybe I just tried to stick my penis in her. Don't act like you haven't thought about that as well. The difference between me and you is, well… I have the nuts you wish you had.

...not a valid argument.

At least there were interesting discussions, lank. Of course if you strain the idiots from Shoutwire, we're going to be a lot less populous. Fact of life. I don't want this site to be like Digg. I want Shoutwire to have some intellectual merits to it. I don't see what editorials like these contribute to anything. They aren't educational, they don't offer a viewpoint on anything worth talking about (i.e. politics, religion, science, history, philosophy). It's a half-baked rant.

Sure not everything has to have a purpose or be educational...but this isn't even funny. And I'm sure even the people who found it funny weren't laughing that much. Again, one man's opinion.
