You couldn't even stop a plane/missile/whatever from hitting pentagon. This is a bit larger.

What makes you think N. Korea won't end up becoming the worlds biggest parking lot? We blew up Japan for an island, what do you think we'd do for California?

That would be cool if we took over North Korea and enslaved their people. Every man could have their own North Korean hot teenage slave. Id treat her good.

You didn't blow up Japan for an island, you blew it up to see the effects and efficiency of atomic weapons.

There were also the factors of exerting power in the far eastern region and for money in the military-industrial complex.

And I didn't mention anything about retaliation.

Not really, it's in the history books that the bombs were dropped in retaliation to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Not to test our nukes on an actual target... it doesn't take a genius to figure out that its the most likely answer. However, ask any politcal figure and they'll all say it was retaliation.
