I spit on all you unpatriotic fucks.
Today is the day the greatest nation that ever existed on Earth began 142 years ago. Canadians have much to be proud of. However, even the greatest nation on Earth still has its problems.
The Russians threaten our airspace with their shitty planes and violate our sovereign waters with their submarines up in the Arctic. We should be shooting their planes down and sinking their subs as they cross our borders without warning. None of our politicians have the balls to at least try to initiate this. All we have to do is say it is an act of war (which I think sending bombers into a foreign country uninvited does qualify as that) and we're not liable if the Ruskies want their craptacular planes shot down. Instead, we cry about it and politely ask they leave, if we even say anything. Look at what a quick Google search pulls up. The only time we actually did something is when Obama visited. And even then, we didn't shoot the Ruskie fuckers down, we "escorted" them out. For fuck's sake, the Americans would orgasm if anyone up north had the cojones to do actually militarily engage the Reds.
Politically, we are a mess. An election is threatened every 20 minutes and thank Christ the Liberals are spineless or else we'd have a new Prime Minister every hour. The Liberal government of Ontario wants to scrap nuclear power because it has finally bowed to all the pressure from the left-wing wacko environmental groups. This is despite Canada having some of the safest, most durable, most efficient reactors on the planet, the country with the most expertise (except maybe France, and that's a huge maybe), and the fact that we produce a third of the world's medical isotopes at a fucking 50+ year old reactor at Chalk River that is falling apart. It is already decades beyond the date it was supposed to be in operation until. Huge sums of money were invested in two reactors (MAPLE1 and MAPLE2), but a design flaw meant that the money invested in these were wasted. Beautiful. Ontario may have a lot of rivers that could be dammed for hydroelectric power, but one nuclear plant can produce several factors more power than one hydroelectric plant, the ecological damage is minimal comparatively, and we have uranium up the ass to do this. I don't understand this fear of nuclear power.
Ontario has banned the use of pesticides as well, except in certain uses like agriculture and for use on golf courses. Yet, they wish to fluoridate all the water in the province. My city of Thunder Bay is trying to get the water fluoridated, but it is met with massive opposition from the public. The Thunder Bay District Health Unit went around to all the high schools, releasing their propaganda pamphlets. I got my hands on one of these. Under the heading "How do we know fluoridation is safe?", the first point they have is "Fluoridation is safe". Wow, well now that you mention it, I believe you /sarcasm. They also claim that BEFORE the tooth is exposed, fluoride deposits on the surface. They've even put up billboards around town advertising the health benefits of water. These are the same idiots who probably don't realise people will be cooking, cleaning, washing themselves, their cars, their gardens, their pets, their lawns. There is going to be a lot of fucking fluoride in the soil. Water is amphoteric, too. Meaning that 2H2O <-> H3O+ + OH-. What about all the resultant trace hydrofluoric acid in the soil? And they are worried about pesticides? Fluorine is the most electronegative element. How do they plan on removing that from the soil? There may not be a significant amount initially, but project forward 25, 50 years and then what?
And don't they think that constant exposure to fluoride will cause fluorosis? Your teeth are generally made of a compound called hydroxyapatite. When it reacts with fluoride, it makes fluorapatite. Too much causes fluorosis. In mild cases, this just means white spots on your teeth. In more moderate to severe cases, you can have brown spots and tooth rot. This isn't to mention that fluorosis doesn't just affect teeth, but bones as well. Women and children are especially susceptible to this. I've been trying to find the rates of osteoporosis and fluorosis in the Toronto area (as they have had fluoridated water for awhile now) and trying to find a correlation, but I haven't found the information I'm looking for yet. Women - who are already susceptible to osteoporosis - would be put at an even higher risk. These are the people us taxpayers put in charge of our health. Yet they have not addressed any of these issues. Instead, they spent money on their propaganda machine to try and dupe the uneducated and the gullible into thinking this is a good thing. There's enough shit in our water, thank you. By the way, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Nazis use fluorine to induce lethargy in their prisoners?
Quebec is another issue. The separatist movement is still going strong. But this is what I don't get about the separatist movement. Historically, New France was conquered by the British and the only thing preventing a mass slaughter or expulsion of Frenchmen was the good will of Britain. In those days, this would have been acceptable and certainly wouldn't be the first time it happened (Nova Scotia Acadians to Louisiana). In reality, the British could have slaughtered most of them and forced the rest to speak English. But they didn't. They let the French keep their language and customs and religion. Now most of Quebec cries that they are being neglected, despite them receiving more attention than more populous Ontario from the federal government? We have a fucking political party whose sole interest is Quebec, only campaigning in Quebec with no hope of ever winning (because they only campaign in Quebec). Their goal is instead to disrupt the federal government and show the people of Quebec how they are being mistreated whenever a stupid "language law" gets shot down in parliament. By language law, I mean those stupid little laws that dictate the French writing must be bigger than English writing on signs in Quebec, etc. The ones that waste everyone's time. Why are we bothering? If the separatists hate this country, they can go to France. They're only wannabe Frenchmen after all.
We do have some good things going for us, though. We're a G8 country with high technological advancements, our life expectancy is among the highest in the world, we have a very secular society and the ones in Canada who are religious are not extreme at all (at least the vast, vast majority), they are moderate and actually go around helping people who need it. We have very few creationists, our centre politics are perfectly set on the wings, being a nice blend of socialism and capitalism. We have a good universal health care system. Though the waiting times leave something to be desired, this can easily be solved with a two-tier healthcare system. Unfortunately, the quasi-Communist left wing in this country opposes it heavily because it allows people who can afford it to get better health care within the country without having to go to the States and actually encourages our own doctors to stay in Canada. We have the most beautiful landscapes in the world and we have more freedoms than we can count. Frankly, I'm quite proud to be Canadian despite all our shortcomings in other sectors. Today is the day we can proudly look up at our flag and say we live in the greatest nation on Earth and salute the brave men and women who died defending it and the freedoms we enjoy today.
