Oh boo-fucking-hoo! Talk about bullshit.

Seems anytime males aren't killing, raping, and pillaging, this shit resurfaces.

I feel that though. I was an avid Lego builder as a kid and I am kind of effeminate.

This to me doesn't make complete sense.

I live near U of R and I had a professor who did research with pthalates.

One thing is very clear: pthalates mimic estrogen in chemical shape, and estrogen receptors DO accept these.

It's good that these are banned in many countries. It's just not a good thing.

The thing that doesn't make sense is that is the pthalate molecule behaving like estrogen, or is it inhibiting estrogen reception???

If it is inhibiting reception, these boys WON'T develop properly, but it seems like they'd actually develop LESS female characteristics (since it blocks estrogen reception).

I don't know a lot about it, but I think the perspective of the article (news article, I didn't read the peer-reviewed article) is wrong. It just doesn't make sense (or rather, seems extremely coincidental) that a synthetic hydrocarbon not only mimics estrogen, but acts like a super-estrogen....

lank,

i don't think pthalates inhibit estrogen hormones, it sounds like both happen to be competitors for estrogen receptors with pthalates being a better inductor than estrogen in key metabolic pathways that are responsible for feminine traits.

but i don't think the results of this study are very conclusive. these little boys might not necessarily be becoming "feminised", they could just be tired. or some environmental factor is making male kids less active than those of previous generations.

Ahh competition..that's what i was meaning to refer to (it's been 2 years since I graduated with my bio degree, and while I like being able to reference it, it's practically useless).

I didn't mean inhibiting the hormones, I meant inhibiting the reception of the hormones, which I think is competition.

But yeah, seems we're in agreement that "feminization" isn't the word or the necessary phenomenon we're looking for.

i read the article twice and i can't figure out how they came to the conclusion that these boys are "feminized".

never even once talked about these little kids playing doll house and tea.. you know that shit little girls play thinking they are princesses lol.

quincy0191Fuck You, Norton Antivirus
I’ve been having problems with Norton Antivirus for the past few weeks, mainly relating to an issue with the ccSvcHst.exe file, which has a tendency to eat one’s entire CPU on occasion, and for little reason. The LiveUpdate feature has some influence here; if it’s not run for an extended period, and when it is run and for a short time after, it causes ccSvcHst.exe to take up 80-100% of the processor’s capacity. This is a well-documented issue online, as a quick Goog...

nodnarb232001Bioshock 2- A First Look
Bioshock was one of the most awesome games on the Xbox 360/PC/PS3 (I'll be focusing on the 360 version). Set in a dystopian underwater city created and ruled by uber-zealous free market capitalist magnate Andrew Ryan the citizens of Rapture took a liking to the gene modification craze known as Splicing. Better looks? Different hair color? Ability to shoot lightning? Splicing's got your back. Powered by a material harvested from sea slugs known as Adam, splicing pav...
