I received a very unsettling email from GoDaddy last week.

Ha ha fucking wankers, cancel your domian name at same time buy it else where is all i can think of. What they are doing is utter ballshit and might be worth if you have a m8 who does law or all you that will now look at this and comment if you know law then wirte for whomever a returning email that will scare the shit out of them, If my service did this to me they would be taking the wrong path i would contact a solictor for there is no why they can take a electronic connfession as real im sure.

I use http://www.netpivotal.com/ and find its absolutley excellent.

This is absolutely ridiculous and nothing but a moneymaking scheme, and somewhat reminds me of the PayPal fiasco.

Whos to say that GoDaddy didn't just say hes a spammer anyway? They might have just decided to 'check up' on his webpage and then issue the warning themselves, reap the cash or lose a customer.

Is it just me or is go-daddy attempting to destroy it's own reputation?

Actually I did delete the posts once I heard that someone was considering it spam. I didn't want to be associated with spam in any way, and as I said that was not the intent of my message.

Welcome to the new bussiness age. When a company is making money, they tend to be not as carefull as to who the offend or cancle service to.

My advice would be to READ THE AGREEMENT next time and maybe this wouldn't happen again.

Greetings everyone,

I'd like to expand a little on my post on 8008135.org

Many of you simply think I'm a spammer. Fine. No sense in calling me names, in fact you'd be better off to ignore the rest of the posts here and elsewhere.

As for those of you who want to know more, here it is.

As I said, I posted the message to some Yahoo groups that I was a member of. Someone pointed out that perhaps I could have made the message a bit less spammy-looking, and once I went back over what I wrote, I agree. My intention was to provide the group with more backlinks and yes provide them with more resources for their businesses.

Before posting, I asked for approval from the admins if I knew they might have objections to it. I did not have any turned down. So I posted.

Someone, somewhere didn't like my message. They didn't like the idea of me promoting their business, whatever.

Enter GoDaddy. I get an email from abuse@godaddy.com with specifics about the incident. I have 24 hours to reply, which I do promptly. I also remove my posts from most of the boards as I do not want to be referred to or thought of as a spammer. Once I realized that it could be taken that way, down they came.

So I reply to GD and don't hear anything. I figure its all cool, an honest mistake, not meant to hurt/annoy anyone. Then they send me the blackmail/extortion whatever you want to call it email. I'm blown away. I post a message about it on my blog, and here we are.

Someone posted a message about this being a repeat email, or there being multiple complaints against me.

No, quite the opposite. I posted one message, not many. I've never had a complaint filed against me for anything like this before.

This is a scam, plain and simple.

Agreed...total scam. I'd check the headers to ensure it's really from godaddy.com. If it is, look into getting people to fight for your case for free (at least lawyers' greed isn't targeted at or hurts the person). This is extortion, plain and simple.
