Copyright laws… What are they for? Who needs them? And why are giant corporations suing teenage girls because of them?

It's really short sighted to say copyrights/patents are bad...

If everybody can use what you make...then what motivation does any firm/person/whatever have to make anything new or advanced? And waste all the research time and money?

Having maybe 10 year copyrights on music/programs would probably be a good solution. If you can't regain your investment cost and make a profit in 10 years...then you fail at business and should lose money.

^ See: GPL, GNU, Free Software Foundation

There is more than enough motivation without greedy CEOs getting in the way. The only people that truly make money from this are those fuckers in suits attending meetings on going nowhere as efficiently as possible. Look how much free music is out there compared to the big names, and you're telling me we need this patent bullshit?

He mentions that copyrights are really meant for things like big budget movies and pharmacuticals. Copyrights in the music business are bullshit, not because musicians shouldn't have a say in their music, but because the record industry exploits said artists and next to no money gets the them anyway, it goes to a guy in a suit who says "hmm, yes, put their music on an album, great, another $400,000 for me today, a good days work, time to head home". There are many better alternatives to the record industry, especially now with the internet. For example, pirate a CD and mail the artist $5, it might not seem like much but on average an artist recieves 10 cents per album sold so it's quite a bonus. Another good idea is a website, like myspace but not gay, where artists could upload their music, depending on how many downloads their music gets it starts charging a few cents to a doller for the songs, a direct implementation of supply and demand, cut out the overly paid record execs.

I'm tired of artists being exploited, of actually owing the record company money after releasing an album. Why should the artist have to pay back recording studio fees? It seems like the point of the record lable would be to get them access to a studio, if they have to pay the lable back for everything they do then what's the point of the lable? To get air time on the radio, mostly because a company called Clear Channel Worldwide now controlls the majority of all radio.

I hate the record industry and all this bullshit they pull about piracy and how much it hurts them....

sorry, this is a touchy subject for me and I kind of got off track, bottom line, pirate music.

Simple solution to the record and music copyright problem.

Spend time listening to the little guys that give their music away for free. There's plenty on the web.
The idea of limited copyright time period would help, but profit restrictions in all bussiness would be better for everybody. If it was applied to individuals even, then only the people who were dedicated to their work would bother. That might get rid of a lot of crappy music too.

quincy0191Fuck You, Norton Antivirus
I’ve been having problems with Norton Antivirus for the past few weeks, mainly relating to an issue with the ccSvcHst.exe file, which has a tendency to eat one’s entire CPU on occasion, and for little reason. The LiveUpdate feature has some influence here; if it’s not run for an extended period, and when it is run and for a short time after, it causes ccSvcHst.exe to take up 80-100% of the processor’s capacity. This is a well-documented issue online, as a quick Goog...

quincy0191It's Gettin' Hot in Herre
Pretty much everyone’s heard about the evil/saintly hacker who stole/liberated thousands of emails from a server at the University of East Anglia in England. Most publicized is the use of the word “trick” by one of the scientists when referring to climate data that did not indicate warming; essentially, the individual wished to hide the fact that there was no warming during a given period, via “creative statistics” (my term, not theirs).Plenty of climate change skep...
