Canada Votes Against Renewal of Anti-Terrorism Act

The Canadian Parliament voted against renewing and expanding anti-terror laws that were introduced after 9/11. Think of it as Canada's version of the Patriot Act. The legislation was voted down despite accusations by the conservative Prime Minister that the Liberal Party was "soft on terror," and despite recent terror plots.

Come on now folks. When we accuse and fight amongst ourselves and make derisive remarks toward one another simply because of a difference in opinion about the threat of terrorism - THAT is when "the terrorists" truly win. Instead of helping and supporting our countrymen (and allies) we try and come up with reasons *why* these types of things happen, which leads to blame and unfounded accusations. It doesn't matter where we are; at the end of the day we're all human beings.

Last time I checked, Canadian troops weren't in Iraq. Being Canadian, I figured I would have been well aware if this was the case...Canadian troops are fighting in Afghanistan, we don't agree with the Iraq war and never have.

Oh and for the record: I'd say OVERALL America has done more bad for the world than good. I actually can't think of like, 5 good things you guys have done since, say 1930s. I can think of a shit load of bad though.

Really? I seem to recall the police arresting some people on a "home grown" plot not too long ago. Sure, we're not as much of a target as the USA but that's no excuse to the naive. Do you really think that the hardcore extremists see a big difference? No.

To whoever said Canada is in Iraq... we're not. Canada is, however, playing a massive role in Afghanistan. Which probably means we're making enemies there as well. Personally, I agree with the war in Afghanistan, seeing as how there are actual terrorists there. Iraq, not so much. I'm glad Canada stayed out of that fuck-up.

I think most people still support our being in Afghanistan, or rather, I haven't heard any dissent about our being there. We're there battling the Taliban. In case any of you Americans forgot, they're the one's who've scared you guys into enacting anti-terrorism laws, not the people of Iraq.

I remember reading somewhere that certain parts were not renewed, and this made it even less threatening to the public. The Patriot act is basically dead.

That's automatic enemy in the jihadist handbook...Even if you think your peacekeeping..You killed jihadist and they won't forget...Things should change with the upcomeing war with iran..

That Patriot Act is alive and kicking...It's just the american people have forgotten what it's like to be hit since there hasn't been an attack in so long. Well , the upcoming war with iran should give our grand old patriot act the shot in the arm it need for a great but rewritten comeback..
