by pulling up eastern europe the rest of the eu will benefit in the long term from an stronger european economy thanks to improvements in the east, and it gets other benefits like decresed crime as many of the eastern european countries have severe organised crime problems( we are getting them over here too.)

dedicating yourself to improving the our neighbors and the rest of the world will only benefit everyone, we have the resourses and funds to make those improvements, just as the EU applies its to improving its neighbors.

Since Romania and its neigbours have been allowed entrance into the UK, 80% of cash machine robberies are carried out by romanian immigrants, Soho london has practically been taken over by breakaway ex-soviot Mafia running prositution gangs and peddling heroine and coke.
Kiddie fiddlers, rapists and murderers have fled to the UK, a few months ago a young girl was raped by someone that was actually refused citizenship but couldnt be deported due to a legal loop hole caused by apart of the europeon constitution.

A family of 7 romanian gypsys arrived in the country a few months ago have been given 2 council houses with the walls knocked through in southern england yet theres a 3yr waiting list for ordinary uk citizens.

The lastest figures show that within the London area theres large pockets of the community that dont actually have English as their first language and infact cant actually speak it.

We pay millions of pounds in taxes every second of the day yet our NHS is one of the worst in the west, our schooling is again massivly underfunded, yet we spend millions and millions of pounds on housing people from other EU countries just so they can save up and send money back to their home countries to build huge houses and start family bussinesses up.

i never said the eu was perfect, but what it is working to would be a great thing for everyone involved.

i fully acknowlage the organised crime problems in the eastern countries but thats exactly my point, the crime that spills out from there will never stop unless the whole of europe works to improve those countries to reduce poverty and crime.
you would still have many criminals coming west without the eu, with it you have a chance to eventually stop most of that crime. just take the us/mexico situation for example, forever the us exploited mexico and gave nothing back, mexico soon became dirt poor. the us suffers from thousands of jobless immigrants and hundreds of criminals streming over the boarder, had the us worked to help mexico and keep its economy strong, those problems would be greatly reduced.

and britain isnt the only country with immigration problems, as for the romani, they were probably rich or just bribed the right official.
