"I may be in jail--or worse--in the next 24 hours. Please rally whoever you can, call whoever you can, bring as much attention to this as you can. I have no doubt that the military will bury me and hide the whole situation if they can. I'm in big trouble. I'm in the middle of Iraq, surrounded by people who are not on my side. Please help me. Please contact whoever you can, and tell them who I am, so I don't 'disappear.'"

Oh wow what a stupid asshole. "spread the word so I dont disappear". Oh give me a fucking break.

"Yesterday, June 19, 26-year-old SPC Eli Israel put himself at great personal risk by making the courageous decision to refuse further participation in the U.S. occupation of Iraq."

Courageous huh? More like cowardly. This guy would have resisted any war because he's afraid. So what does he do? He runs away and in the process tries to grab as much attention as possible. It has nothing to do with him having a conscience. It has to do with him joining the military and thinking he would not have to go to war. He would have resisted going to any war because he joined up without thinking it through. He's a coward and an attention whore.

He's no better than a deserter. He deserves to be shot in the balls. Not that he has any.

Wow, I am sure that having a stateside civilian chichenhawk call him a coward is really hurting his feelings. jeeze, man get your ass to Iraq.

And hey, how in bloody hell do you reconcile all this hate towards this man - one man - with the military record that your beloved leader has?

You are a walking, talking, and puzzling mass of direct contradictions.

whaddya do toss a coin when you make up your beliefs? Do me a favor, have that coin checked out.

Don't worry I plan to.

Where exactly do you people get the idea that I like Bush? I've said multiple times that I do not like him or agree with him. I also have said multiple times in many of your OWN submissions that I think he was a coward for having his family get him out of having to go to Vietnam.

@NutManIV - Don't worry I plan to.

Yeah, LOL, i'm sure you will go to Iraq and that it will happen right around the time that magcynic goes... oops, I forgot, he changed his mind. {Something about wanting to finish college first, and then later saying that he decided he would not go at all...saying something about not wanting to leave his GF. This...after numerous times of pretending to be a tough guy and claiming that he was going.} You chickenhawks have no shame.

Ooooooh nice try, but that's a far cry from the thrashing and the dripping hatred that you have given in other threads and in here towards conscientious objectors and those who also refuse citing concerns about the legality of the Iraq war/current occupation, etc.

FYI, didn't bush go AWOL? and wasn't he a deserter as well? And during a time of war? And wasn't this after his da-da pulled strings to get him ahead of others - and thus someone else probably had to go to nam in his place?

Anyhoo just for shits and giggles (for the non-bloodthirsty cowardly scared shit in their pants whackjobs in here), let's pretend that you were talking about bush instead, when you said the below...

Hey, it's not really my decision. Maybe I'll go to Afghanistan instead. Frankly I don't really care if you think I'm lying or not. I don't really feel the need to convince you.

So? What does that have to do with this? You claim I like Bush. I don't. The end.

"FYI, didn't bush go AWOL? and wasn't he a deserter as well? And during a time of war? And wasn't this after his da-da pulled strings to get him ahead of others - and thus someone else probably had to go to nam in his place?"

From what I understand he didn't go awol, but his family, friends, relations etc were able to pull some strings to get him out of going to Nam. Doesn't make it any better though.

Oh, and just so we can clear things up.

Bush deserves to be shot in the balls for running away like a little pussy.

So , if a soldier comes to his sences after allready serving time there, and probably nuff action this guy is a coward for standing up for his views?
The droid you might want to become does not apply on every soldier, they should ask questions upon the actions of their leaders, and if in doubt speak up.
This is not a cowardly descision but a brave one, since it's harder to take an opposite stance, then follow like a dog.

Again you portray it to be black and white, while it never is. Instead you come in here time and time again, bragging about how good you can follow, stating your opinions as fact (for instance your claim that insurgents are just a rag tag bunch of losers, which if they are says even more about your military, but you never gave us any info on where you get this wisdom)
You want to go fight for a man who you say you don't support in a war that has no end and no meaning, suit yourself, i hope you come back in one piece.
But don't suspect anyone to be supportive for the choice you yourself make, because you refuse to think and discard whatever that doesn't suit you or your views

and not a bush rooter? , common what are you then a policy hugger?
Stupid FTW, right?

Nutman must be an angry 20 year old, i was like him then. Thought i knew it all, knew which news wasnt lies, thought i made up my mind on what was right and wrong.

Hopefully one day he will start to have critical thinking begin...and then for sure decide what is really going on, till then live in the box of your programmed thinking,, and keep up the good work !!

Sorry, to me, he's neither couragous nor a coward. My problem is that his paranoia is just ridiculous. He has violated a direct order. If he believed the whole war to be illegal, that is fine. This is a volunteer-based war. Once you sign up, you sign up for responsibilities as well.

He is failing to meet that.

FernyReyes:
It's not a deal with the devil, you can back out of it. If you are doing something against your morals, you are within your right to walk away. I thought that's what the idea of freedom was.

Nutman:
What are you? Some sort of troop hating commie or something? When they say 'support the troops', it means to support the troops and not a fiendishly aggresive policy of hostile takeover. Now who is being treasonous?

the4thwallOn Iran, From an American Iranian
I have an Iranian background, so throughout my life I've been bombarded with opinions on the country. Not only that, both my parents were involved in the late 70's revolution, and saw youth that helped Khomeini get to power being shot down by Khomeini's followers afterwards. That's the problem with revolutions, sometimes a power vacuum can destroy what could be a beautifull transformation. On top of that, I have dual citizen ship, and voted in the last election, whi...

KhramHappy Canada Day!
Today is the day the greatest nation that ever existed on Earth began 142 years ago. Canadians have much to be proud of. However, even the greatest nation on Earth still has its problems. The Russians threaten our airspace with their shitty planes and violate our sovereign waters with their submarines up in the Arctic. We should be shooting their planes down and sinking their subs as they cross our borders without warning. None of our politicians have the balls to at...
