This is absurd- it is EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME a Shoutwire page loads, the ad pops. The ads go to the following-

Trellian shit.
And Drivecleaner...fucking Drive-god damn-cleaner. Drivecleaner is the newest incarnation of the Winfixer malware.

Everyone, add more as you see it. Also, add this to your filters:

http://www.sharpadverts.com
www.sharpadverts.com
sharpadverts.com
http://www.sharpadverts.com/?aid=slidesee

This is the site that is carrying, and delivering, some of the ads, so it may help to block it. I have them blocked through my Hosts file, which seems to be doing quite well at keeping my computer from establishing a connection to their server. It's also keeping the pop-up window from redirecting to the actual ad itself.

Pop-ups = $$$$$$. It's a business, folks. To the best of my knowledge, Shoutwire isn't funded by PBS or the Gates foundation.

Actually, between Norton and Firefox, collectively, they do a pretty good job of blocking them. The embedded keyword links are somewhat annoying, I just need to do a better job of avoiding them. But there's nothing here that isn't found on any other public commercial site.

cant they at least do one popup per 10 page views?

Pop-ups? Embedded keywords? Where?

Firefox with Adblock Plus. That is all.

the point is... we shouldnt have to block popups

popups = gayness and not only that but it makes this site feel shitty... any website with popups feels unprofessional and shitty.

I HAVE firefox, I also HAVE Adblock Plus, but these things are bombing me on every flippin page. I love shoutwire but this is driving me to leave it and never come back. And it seems they are only getting worse.

Regarding pop-up blockers.

I have firefox with the pop-up blocker active, and my browser has been hijacked, several times, by the DriveCleaner/SystemDoctor advertisement. You can't click anything in it- if you do, it'll start installing shit. Also, anti-advertisement programs take away from the CPU and sit in the system memory- which takes away from other applications that people like to run, and also contribute to memory leaks, memory hogging, sluggish performance, and are a nuisance.

Is anyone still getting the DriveClearn/Sysdoctor junk when logging on? If so, let me know.

We'll address other issues and some site stuff in a big update I'll do next week.
