Every so often- once, in a great while actually- an event will happen that will bring everyone together. Groups of people who, under normal circumstances, would be insulting and flaming each other into oblivion, will band together against a common annoyance. We have seen it in the past- the RIAA, Paris Hilton, the MPAA, and that damn mosquito; the myriad members of Shoutwire have shown that even with the most intense of hatreds (Isreali vs Palestinian, USA vs everyone else on the planet, Liberal tree huggers vs Bush fapping Conservatives), they can, and will, join forces and lambaste their common enemy and- for a brief, refreshing moment- show that even through adversity; polar opposites can get along when it is necessary.

This, is another one of those times. We members of Shoutwire are now being assaulted by the most vile form of internet marketing man have concieved- The Pop-Up Ad. They contribute nothing to the general good of the internet, are a tool for the installation of spyware, can hijack browsers before the computer user can say "WTF?", and degrade the web using experience to nothing more than "OMFG!!! THESE DAMN POPUPS ARE SO ANNOYING!!! GOD I HATE THEM I'M NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN! WRAAAGGGHHH!!!".

We, the users of Shoutwire, wish for an end to the onslaught of force-fed advertising. Shoutwire has been online for over a year, and has grown to the dysfunctional community that it is today, without the need for pop-ups. Pop-ups are unnecessary, un-productive, and un-wanted.

We, the people of Shoutwire, do hereby plead to our Webmasters. Please, end this madness. Get rid of the pop-ups. Our Web Browsers will thank you.

I've been getting these things for the past few days so I had to switch my browser. What's worse is that disk cleaner popup and it's damned scamware setting off my anti virus forcing me to close the site, reboot, swear randomly and go do something else. Please get rid of these things.

I'm going to agree with the annoyingness. I usually visit here periodically throughout the day at work, and I can't install Firefox on my work comp.

Please get rid of the bullshit.

i would normally agree but

a) i use firefox, which automatically blocks those pop-ups. try it

b) This is a very, very poor argument. In case anyone has forgotten, Shoutwire is now owned by another company, AKA Tubearoo (check the bottom of the page).

Tubearoo is a Publicly Traded Company, which means they like money, their shareholders like money, and any lack of it will lead to disaster. the pop-ups are there for that reason; companies will bid to get advertisements on the site, and pay up to Tubearoo to get them. I would like to think some of that money trickles down to supporting shoutwire, but im not that hopeful.

Unless you all think that we should pay out of pocket to keep this site up. Personally, i dont care; its not that hard to hit the little red X when the window comes up.

^Ahh yes- "Sacrifice our user's opinions in the persuit of money. So what if it annoys them? It's not like they'll just LEAVE AND NEVER COME BACK, right?" Dude, digg doesn't even have popups (well, none that I have seen); and if they do- they aren't as bad as this shit.

Pop ups are okay, but not pop-ups that take over your browser.

FlikIn The Beginning (Day One)
Date: The Beginning (day one) Current mood: Creative Listening to: Phil Collins - Another Day in Paradise Posted by: THE_ONE After having been harassed interminably by all the other deities, I have finally deigned to create myself a blog. I've no doubt that it will serve no purpose other than consume precious time that could be better spent being wrothful towards hypothetical worshippers that I am yet to create. The Pagan gods have been making fun of me though...

quincy0191Infinity Ward VERSUS! Activision-Blizzard
The gaming world is abuzz with news of corporate villainy as Infinity Ward CEO Vince Zampella and president Jason West were fired last week under rather suspicious circumstances. According to reports, both employees were being “insubordinate” and their firing coincided with the arrival of some “bouncer types” on the Infinity Ward campus. This development just reeks of evil. The charges of insubordination are appropriately vague, and the additional fact that the firin...
